Columbus Receives National City Cultural Diversity Award for Housing Strategy

The City of Columbus has been honored with the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 City Cultural Diversity Award for its outstanding efforts in promoting cultural diversity within local communities. Mayor Andrew J. Ginther emphasized the importance of affordability and diversity, stating, "If you work in Central Ohio, you should be able to afford to live in Central Ohio."

The City's Columbus Housing Strategy was specifically highlighted as a model of collaboration to enhance equity and affordability for lower- and middle-income families, people of color, and older residents facing housing challenges. Mayor Ginther expressed the city's commitment to making Columbus more affordable and diverse, stating, "We're moving with a sense of urgency and purpose to get this done because we know that our future is bright if and only if everyone is a part of it."

NLC President and Mayor of Rancho Cordova, CA, David Sander, commended the winning municipalities, including Columbus, for their dedication to promoting inclusivity and diversity. Sander emphasized the significance of these efforts as NLC marks its 100th anniversary, stating, "Your leadership in promoting inclusivity and diversity as a core value of your city is an essential step toward cultivating more equitable and inclusive communities all over America in the next century."

Columbus was selected as one of the four communities to receive the 2024 City Cultural Diversity Award, competing against over 40 applicants in the category for cities with populations greater than 500,001. The winners were honored at NLC's 2024 Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C., on March 11.
