Tutor Doctor, with approximately 300 franchised locations worldwide, has been making waves in the education sector for the past 18 years.

The franchise, which has a location in Westerville, specializes in providing private one-on-one tutoring for students of all ages, from kindergarten to adults, covering a wide array of subjects, including English, math, science and languages.

“There's really no greater value than improving your child or your student's performance,” Brenden Gallagher, the owner of Tutor Doctor of Northern Columbus, told NE Franklin News. “There's not one drawback because you really are investing in their future.”

The unique aspect of Tutor Doctor's approach is its flexibility, offering in-home and virtual private tutoring to cater to individual learning needs.

With a focus on local ownership, Tutor Doctor strives to connect with and serve communities through individuals like Gallagher, who not only own the franchise but also live and work in the areas they serve.

This local connection ensures that clients have someone familiar to turn to for support, questions, or additional resources.

Gallagher said the process at Tutor Doctor begins with potential clients reaching out through various channels, including Google searches, referrals from other parents or schools or responding to yard signs.

Following an initial call, a free consultation is arranged, typically a 30 to 60-minute video call, where the student and parents discuss challenges, needs, and expectations.

This allows the Tutor Doctor to understand the student's personality and learning style, crucial for making personalized recommendations regarding the frequency and duration of tutoring sessions.

Gallagher emphasized the multi-faceted benefits of private tutoring, extending beyond academic improvement.

While addressing gaps in subject knowledge, Tutor Doctor also integrates academic coaching to enhance students' organizational and executive functioning skills.

This holistic approach aims to boost confidence, positively impacting not only academics but also extracurricular activities.

“There are several other benefits, a key one is it improves confidence,” he said.

“Sometimes it's just with that subject, but sometimes it flows into other areas, whether that's academically or extracurriculars. So if they're struggling with the class then gaining that confidence could help them be a better lacrosse player or basketball player or golfer or musician.”

One noteworthy advantage, as Gallagher highlighted, is the relief it brings to parents.

By providing professional tutoring services, Tutor Doctor allows parents to step back from the direct role of teaching and problem-solving, improving the parent-child dynamic and reducing stress in relationships.

Gallagher, speaking from his own experience as a parent, emphasized the unmatched value of investing in a child's education.

“My own son ended up having all four years of college paid for because of his grades and test scores,” he said.

As the franchise continues to grow globally, its emphasis on personalized, community-focused tutoring remains at the forefront of its mission to change the trajectory of student lives.

Gallagher's journey with Tutor Doctor exemplifies a career transformation driven by a passion for education and a commitment to making a positive impact on students' lives.

In the midst of a global pandemic, Gallagher decided to embark on a new journey that aligned with his passion for education.

Gallagher, drawing upon over 25 years of experience in recruiting and talent acquisition, made the bold decision to transition from his professional career to pursue a franchise business.

"I left my last position just before the pandemic, and considering the job market and various opportunities, I decided to explore the franchise route. I chose Tutor Doctor based on what they offer and the perceived need in the market for private tutoring,” he said.
