Mayor Andrew J. Ginther has unveiled the proposed 2025 General Fund budget for Columbus, amounting to $1.23 billion. The proposal aims to balance strategic investments in safety, housing, transportation, and essential services with fiscal responsibility. Mayor Ginther stated that these efforts are intended to promote equitable prosperity and safety for the city's residents amid ongoing growth.
"Investments we’ve made in past years, particularly in safety and housing, are proving their value, with Columbus leading the nation in homicide reduction and housing starts up 21% in 2024," said Mayor Ginther. "We will continue these proven investments that are impacting safety and affordability for all residents while embracing opportunities to innovate and strengthen our support for every family in every Columbus neighborhood."
The proposal marks Mayor Ginther's ninth Operating Budget submission. By city charter requirement, the mayor must present a balanced budget to City Council by November 15 each year. The Columbus City Council will soon begin deliberations on the budget proposal, which includes public hearings. An amended version of the budget is anticipated to be approved early next year.
