Mayor Andrew J. Ginther has unveiled a $2.9 billion capital budget proposal for 2025, which includes a range of projects aimed at enhancing safety and infrastructure in Columbus. The proposed budget allocates $14 million for the construction of a new Easton police sub-station, $15 million for fire apparatus, and $5 million for safety improvements along the city's four Clean and Safe Corridors. It also includes $2 million for a new police records management system and $7.9 million to improve high-crash intersections.

The budget addresses several areas such as affordable housing, street resurfacing, sidewalks, recreation centers, and utility enhancements. Notably, over $1 billion is earmarked for the city’s fourth water plant. Additionally, more than $8 million is set aside for capital projects benefiting local non-profits.

“This budget focuses on my most fundamental priority – keeping every Columbus resident healthy, safe and stably housed,” stated Mayor Ginther. He emphasized that the investments are intended to support community safety and wellbeing by improving emergency response capabilities, expanding police services, and ensuring safer routes to school.

The funding sources for the 2025 Capital Budget include bond sales backed by the Income Tax Set Aside fund (ITSA) and debt issued by the Department of Public Utilities (or Enterprise Fund). The proposal will be submitted to Columbus City Council via ordinance for consideration. Community education sessions are scheduled for July 10, 14, and 15 to discuss the details further. More information can be found on the city's website.
